About the Patient Account Representative Job
As a Patient Account Representative on our team you will be responsible for billing, electronic claims submission, follow up and collections of patient accounts, initiation of retro insurance authorization requests when necessary, research and analysis, accounting transactions, account refunds and system maintenance functions in order to ensure optimal and accurate reimbursement is collected for services provided. Additionally, you will be responsible for bringing accounts to resolution utilizing a variety of computer systems and reports, patient and payer contact, financial counseling, accounting, customer service and collection skills.
Requirements & Minimum Qualifications
Education · A minimum of High school diploma or GED required.
Skills & Experience · Basic bookkeeping principles, statistical reporting, general business procedures, knowledge of registration, collection, and billing rules and regulations are required. · Two years' experience in a similar position in a healthcare field preferred. · Medical terminology, ICD9, CPT4, HCPCS, and coding conventions preferred. · Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial billing requirements including UB92, 1500, claims and correspondence, Medicaid Claim Inquiry Form (CIF) and Appeals preferred. · Working knowledge of hospital information systems such as Meditech, SMS MS4, or HBOC. · Knowledge of Electronic Billing Software preferred. · Knowledge of how to read and interpret insurance billing and coverage bulletins, HIPAA, EMTALA, ABN, MSP and other payer regulations, remittance advices and explanation of benefits. · Recent experience utilizing a hospital patient accounting system, electronic claims management, and an understanding of billing regulations preferred. · Knowledge of managed care including contract interpretation and validation of appropriate reimbursements.
