Kootenai Health is seeking a detail oriented, community-minded, quality driven, and highly motivated Patient Account Representative.
A Patient Account Representative
· Schedules and registers patients for all types of imaging studies. · Verifies patient demographics, medical necessity, valid orders and pre-authorizations. · Processes patient payments. · Reviews patient account information to confirm that payer specific billing requirements are met, pre-authorizations are obtained and updates accounts as needed. · Prepares medical records for scanning. · Uses i-Site to verify and burn images onto CD/DVD as needed. · Processes a variety of incoming and outgoing faxes. · Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. · Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. · Performs a variety of tasks. · Works under general supervision. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager · A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. · Performs other related duties as assigned. · Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function. Communicate with patients, physicians, families and co-workers in person and on the telephone. · Physical requirements: Majority of shift spent sitting; Ability to work at computer terminal for a specified period of time; Frequent stooping, bending, reaching and lifting. · Read charts, dials, equipment settings, literature and other printed and handwritten materials. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
Requirements & Minimum Qualifications
Education · High school diploma or GED
Experience · Minimum of six months prior customer service experience required. · Knowledge of general business procedures, registration, collection, billing rules and regulations are required. · Accurate by touch keyboarding skills with 35 wpm minimum typing speed. · Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial billing requirements. · Knowledge of how to read and interpret insurance billing and coverage bulletins, HIPAA, ABN, MSP and other payer regulations. · Working knowledge of hospital information systems such as Meditech.
Licensure/Certification · Medical terminology, ICD9/10, CPT, HCPCS, and coding conventions desired.
