Job Description
Directs and oversees employees for the provision of surgical instrumentation reprocessing functions including collection, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection and distribution.  Provides internal Sterile Processing support for the Operating Room, nursing units, and specialty procedural areas.  Provides external support for Kootenai Outpatient Surgery and Kootenai Clinic Physicians.  Oversees department schedule and directs staffing/daily assignments, writes new/updates policies and procedures.  Collaborates with Manager for hiring, disciplining, and terminating of employees.  Manages annual competencies, evaluations, education, training, and coordinates department meetings.  Performs audits and documents as necessary.  Assures QA documentation is complete.  Directs instrument repair process and order of replacement instruments.  Assists with capital purchases.  Oversees instrument tracking system for all users.  Attends meetings and committees.  Manages departmental budget.  Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1.     Associates Degree or Certification in Healthcare Leadership (CHL) required.
2.     Three years' experience in an acute or ambulatory Sterile Processing or Operating Room department/setting.
3.     Central Service Certification through the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management (I.A.H.C.S.M.M.) required.
4.     Familiar with AAMI & AORN recommended Practices and Standards and other industry standards and best practices.
5.     Has knowledge of and can use office suite programs to create documents and spreadsheets as needed.
Essential Job Functions (Physical Requirements):
·         Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function.
·         Able to flex work schedule to accommodate needs for the department and team.
·         On feet a minimum of 7 to 8 hours, depending on length of shift.
·         Reaching with hands and arms above head, shoulder height and below.
·         Use hand and fingers to handle, lift, and feel.
·         Bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 50 pounds.
·         Exposure to contagious diseases, body fluids, hazardous chemicals, needles and other infected material requiring personal protective equipment.
·         Read patient charts, CRT, equipment gauges, monitors, schedules and a variety of other written materials.
·         Works under broad Supervision.
·         Communicate with patients, physicians, families, and co-workers utilizing appropriate methods such as in person, on telephone, through email, etc...
·         Work with equipment and manipulate settings, computer, keyboard, phone system, etc.

Work Environment: 
·         Kootenai Health operates 24 hours per day each day of the year, operational needs of departments may require that you be available to work all shifts, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the patients.
·         Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment.
