JOB SUMMARY: Security Officer is responsible for security of the Kootenai Health and the safety of its patients, staff, employees and visitors with in its legal boundaries. This must be done in a manner that is compatible with Kootenai Health's culture and service orientation. Patrols hospital buildings and grounds, provides escorts for employees and visitors. Responds to emergency calls and assists in restraining. Exercises independent judgment in the course of carrying out overall responsibilities. Public Relations are a key factor of this position. This position works under limited supervision. Work situations are a variety of routine and non-routine situations and functions requiring a service-oriented individual with good judgment and confidentiality.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. High School graduate or equivalent, Associate Degree preferred. One to three years' Military, Law Enforcement or Security background preferred. Health care security experience desired. Must have valid driver's license and good driving record. Must successfully pass an extensive background investigation. BLS required from American Red Cross or Healthcare Provider Card from the American Heart Association. Successful completion of Hospital Security Officers Basic Training Program and receipt of certificate through the International Association for Hospital Security and Safest Foundation within the first 90 days of employment required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: On feet a minimum of 8-12 hours, depending on length of shift. Frequent stooping, bending, reaching, lifting and pushing heavy equipment. Read charts, dials, equipment settings, literature and other printed and handwritten materials. Communicate with patients, physicians, families and co-workers in person and on telephone. Work with equipment and manipulate equipment settings, computer keyboard, etc. Physically restrain patients as needed. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Kootenai Health operates 24 hours per day each day of the year, operational needs of departments may require that you be available to work all shifts, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the patients. Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment. Potential exposure to hostile individuals.
NATURE OF POSITION
Inspect construction sites to assure compliance with safety standards, codes and regulations; examine construction drawings; specifications; and building project proposals. Provide the public with information concerning construction codes and processes.
