About the Family Birthing Center Comprised of labor and delivery, post-partum and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the unit was designed to provide a calm, private experience for new families. The design features more nurses' stations and private rooms to help maintain a quiet, restful atmosphere. Kootenai is one of only about 300 Baby-Friendly hospitals in the nation. This designation represents the highest standard of care for mothers and babies. A dedication to improving infant health through breastfeeding and other maternal-infant care practices in every department of the hospital helped Kootenai earn this distinction. Expectant mothers and fathers receive education and encouragement by physicians, nurses, and staff before, during and after childbirth. The highest quality medical care is provided in a supportive, comfortable and safe environment.
About the NICU
Kootenai's Level III NICU consists of 12 rooms, with two of them equipped to handle twins if needed. We can care for babies born as early as 28 weeks gestation, and those as small as two pounds. Infants will have their own room with the latest technology available. Our neonatologists and neonatal staff are certified to nurture fragile newborns.

About the NICU RN Job
As an RN on our team, you will evaluate, plan, implement, and document nursing care for an assigned patient population. Additionally, you will assist physicians during examinations and procedures, perform various patient tests and administer medications within the scope of practice of the registered nurse. RNs on our team promote each patient's independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching each patient and their family members to understand patient conditions, medications, and self-care needs.
Requirements & Minimum Qualifications
1. Graduate of a nationally accredited Nursing program.
2. State of Idaho Registered Nurse or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the "multistate privilege to practice" compact with Idaho.
3. BSN or enrollment and continuous progression towards completion of a BSN program. This requirement may only be waived at the Director level.
4. CCRN, CNOR, or a minimum of 1 year experience in Critical Care, Emergency or OR/PACU required, as applicable.
5. ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
6. BLS required within 6 months of hire.
