Kootenai Health is seeking a Public Affairs Strategist. This is a new pivotal role in ensuring the positive impact Kootenai has on local and regional health care, the positive impact it has on jobs and the positive impact it has on northern Idaho's economy.
In this role you will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong, positive relationships with key constituencies including elected officials, civil servants, business leaders, members of the media and greater community. Your goal is to increase positive awareness of Kootenai Health's services, enhance Kootenai's reputation with key audiences and nurture a feeling of respect and trust for Kootenai Health. You will promote understanding of Kootenai Health services, policies and practices, as well as the health care industry in general. You will be responsible in developing, executing, and managing, a dedicated public affairs plan that supports Kootenai Health's vision, strategic plan and marketing priorities. This will include government relations, media relations, issue management, information dissemination and strategic communications. You will engage and work within the communications and marketing department, reports to the communications and marketing director, and works closely with C-suite executives. Relies on experience, good judgment, and creativity to plan and accomplish goals and has a high level of responsibility and authority and works as part of a driven and high functioning team.
Minimum Qualifications: 1. Bachelor's degree in public affairs, public relations, communications, marketing, or a related discipline preferred 2. Five years of successful work experience in public affairs 3. Demonstrated leadership, program management, and critical thinking 4. Proven competency in writing, public speaking and personal computer and software applications 5. Ability to travel throughout Idaho, primarily in Kootenai County and Boise. 6. Knowledge of local, state and federal legislative and regulatory processes and governmental relations 7. Demonstrated skills in working collaboratively, courteously and tactfully with difficult situations and/or people to identify issues and tackle problems. 8. Proven ability to design and execute effective public affairs or public relations campaigns 9. Ability to develop mutually beneficial relationships with elected leaders, business leaders and members of the media 10. Experience acting as a company spokesperson; comfortable and skilled at delivering presentations, as well as broadcast and print media interviews 11. Experience with or willingness and ability to learn about social media including blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc. 12. Accreditation in Public Relation, APR, preferred 13. Public Information Officer, PIO, training preferred
