MURRAY,
Alberta Alice

Alberta was born Eileen Gray on December 17, 1916 in Calgary, Alberta. She was adopted by Abraham and Ada Hammond in 1918. Alberta Alice Hammond was raised on a farm one mile east of Malden, WA. She attended school in Rosalia and graduated
from Rosalia High School in 1935. Upon graduating, she attended Kinman Business College and was hired by the Crescent in Spokane. Alberta was the mother of two sons, Richard and Miles Breneman from her firstmarriage to Chester H Breneman (deceased) and a third son, Dennis, from her second marriage to George N. Murray, (deceased). She is survived by her sons and their spouses, three grandchildren, Heath Breneman (Maria) and Meagan Heinen (Pat) and their spouses, and Madesen Murray, along with seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Over the years she raised her family on a farm in the Elk area, co-owned taverns in Malden and Colville, WA. She became very proficient as a pool playerduring that time and earned the nickname "Big Al". Upon retirement on acreage near Elk in 1977, she resided there after the death of George until 2006 when she moved to The Academy and was active there until shortly before her passing. In 1977 Alberta published the book she had worked on for a year. It is titled These My Children, which told the story of George's mother's family being adopted by the Coeur d' Alene Indian Tribe. Since her book is true history, a copy of it is in the U.S. Library of Congress and is used in schools around the area for local history. During her retirement years Alberta was a member of two Senior Citizens groups in Spokane. She held numerous officer positions in both groups. She always mentioned to her kids and grandkids that she taught "old people" how to dance. Alberta was always young at heart and young for her age. She continued writing in the form of letters to the Editor and was always signed off as Alberta A. Murray, Elk. Alberta always had a quick wit and a comeback response for any conversation. She was blessed with very good health and a sharp mind until passing. Alberta will be missed dearly by her family and all who met and knew her during her 93 years. Visitation will be held Friday, March 19, 2010 from 12 Noon until 7 PM, with a Vigil Service to follow at7 PM, both at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be heldSaturday, March 20, 2010 at 10 AM at the Jesuit House, 1106 N. Astor,Spokane, WA. DAUGHARTY,
Dale Irwin "Nick"
(Age 72)

Passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2010 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Memorialservices will be held at Noon on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Clark Fork Senior Center in Clark Fork, Idaho followed by a potluck dinner and private
interment at the family plot at the Clark Fork Cemetery.
He was born in the Page Hospital in Sandpoint to M.H. "Mike" and Irene (Lynge) Daugharty on November 8, 1937. He was raised in Clark Forkgraduating from high school in 1956. Following graduation he joined the United States Army where he received training as a helicopter mechanic. Three years later he was honorably discharged from his army duties thatincluded 18 months in Korea.
Returning home he found civilian work as a helicopter mechanic with oil exploration companies in Alaska. While there he earned enough money tosupplement his G.I. Bill to attend trade school obtaining an A&E license in aircraft maintenance. This education was followed by employment withBoeing Aircraft Company.
A massive labor reduction at Boeing in the early 1970s forced him to find employment with the classified staff in the Seattle School District. He soon became active in the local union becoming the Business Manager for Local 609 of the Operating Engineers. He remained in that position until hisretirement in 1997.
Through union activities and his advocacy for workers rights he waselected to an office as a vice president of the Washington State LaborCouncil and eventually the President on the King County Labor Council that has over 70,000 members. As a Union President he dined with presidents, governors, senators and mayors, but much preferred the company of people who "worked for a living" in the cafes and establishments of Northern Idaho and Seattle discussing issues and matters of importance to them.
He was asked to serve on several governmental committees by both state legislators and governors. However if you asked him about his greatestaccomplishment he would probably tell about being a member of the group that started the Washington State school breakfast program. The success of this program is directly related to a rise in academic achievement among Washington schools and an increase in children's health.
After his retirement Dale "Nick" returned to Bonner County, the land he loved best. He continued his community activities here serving on the Bonner County Historical Society Board, the Pend d'Oreille Bay Trail Group and at the time of his demise he was President of the Ponderay City Council.
During his lifetime he demonstrated a fierce love for his extended family, a commitment to workingmen and women, and an appreciation for thecommunities where he lived. He was an ardent historian of his family and Bonner County and researched for the pleasure of himself or others. Hisfamily appreciated his counsel and support.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Donna (Smith) Daugharty and son Don; stepson Matt (Kaye) Spitzenberg of Seattle, their children Brandon, Ryon, and Leslie and eight great-grandchildren; brother Dave (Mary) Daugharty of Cheney, WA, sons Tim (Kim), Scott (Pat) and children; in-lawsCraig (Rocky) Smith and family of Bellingham and Betty Smith and family of Mesa, AZ.
His untimely death was caused by colon cancer. His zest for life and strong beliefs in humanity gave him the strength to fearlessly and bravely fight cancer for seven years. Memorial donations may be made to Community Cancer Services, 1215 Michigan Street, Suite B, Sandpoint, Id 83864.
LAKEVIEW FUNERAL HOME in SANDPOINT is handling the arrangements. Please visit www.lakeviewfuneral.com and sign his guest book.
