Find your form >>

Families with kids heading to college next year should be filing their FAFSA – the Free Application for Federal Student Aid – ASAP. The window for submitting the form opened Thursday; the sooner you do it, the better, since almost all student aid awards are based on the form. Even if you think you won't qualify, you should fill out the form. It's sort of like an extra-long tax return, but you can get free help by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center, (800) 433-3243. The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators hosts a program to help families with the FAFSA. Check dates and locations at www.collegegoalsundayusa.org.

New license plates honor slain troops

OLYMPIA – The first 25 gold-star license plates in Washington state have been unveiled at the Capitol. They're available to the parents of people who died while in the armed services.

Bill would expand rights of same-sex couples

OLYMPIA – Another battle over the rights of same-sex couples is headed to the state Legislature this year as activists try to expand rights available under Washington's 1 1/2-year-old domestic-partnership registry.

Police seek robber of store's pharmacy

Spokane police are looking for a suspect, possibly in his 60s, who stole drugs from the Albertsons store at 510 E. 37th Ave. on Sunday morning.
